next4

A college match quiz that shows its work.

Most college quizzes ask ten questions and hand you a list with no reasons. next4 asks what you actually care about, then shows you why every school made your list.

Free to start, Plus coming.

How it works

  1. 1
    Sort 86 cards.

Class size, distance from home, cost, Greek life, research, weather and more. Put each one in Must Have, Would Like, Doesn’t Matter, Would Rather Not or Not For Me.

  2. 2
    Get a ranked list.

next4 ranks 6,000+ U.S. colleges against your answers.

  3. 3
    See the reasons.

Every school shows which of your answers put it there.

Where the data comes from

next4 uses public federal data: IPEDS, the College Scorecard, Clery campus safety data, EADA athletics data and BEA regional price data. The rankings are calculated, not written by a chatbot, so school facts are never made up.

What it won't do

It won't give you a fake admission percentage. It won't write your essays. And colleges don't pay us to put themselves on your list.

Questions

Can ChatGPT build my college list?

It can brainstorm, but it doesn't know you, it doesn't keep your list or deadlines in one place, and it sometimes gets school facts wrong. next4 builds your list from a structured database of real college data, so every fact on a school page comes from a source, not a guess.

Is there a college app that isn't paid by colleges?

next4 is paid by families, not colleges. Many free college apps earn money when you engage with the schools that pay them. We don't, so the only thing we're trying to do is find schools that fit you.

Where does next4 get its college data?

From public sources including IPEDS, the College Scorecard, federal Clery campus safety data, EADA athletics data, and BEA regional price data. Matches are computed from that data. An AI never invents a statistic about a school.
